Co-Founder, Chief Creative
Stephen Ahn works on the experience, design, and development of Qlovi's literacy tools and the ways users interact with them. Prior to starting Qlovi, Stephen worked on creating impactful, youth-empowering campaigns and projects with clients such as Mother Jones and the Center for National Progress. In his spare time, Stephen enjoys expanding his knowledge of frontend development and spending time with his dog.
Harlyn hails from Colombia via Texas and holds a BA, MBA, and MPP from the University of Michigan. Through his work at Children's Arts and Science Workshops, Harlyn fostered academic achievement through partnerships with numerous New York City schools and community-based organizations. He has held roles in digital strategy consulting at Accenture, renewables investing with the Obama Administration OMB, and at Major League Baseball working on the World Baseball Classic.
Harlyn is a proud MLT alumnus and 2013 Echoing Green BMA Fellow. Harlyn enjoys reading and running.
Angel has been programming since the age of 12, when he used different flavors of BASIC like QBASIC and GWBASIC. In 2000, he adopted PHP and additional web programming tools. Four years later he developed his own MVC framework using Smarty Template Engine and ADOdb Database Abstraction Library for PHP. Today, he enjoys talking shop with the Qlovi team, fiercely innovating over competition, appreciating the diverse Latino origins of the team, and poking fun of Ricardo and Harlyn for not drinking enough Redbull. Angel was born in Dominican Republic and reps the BX.
Paul was born in South Korea and moved to Queens, New York when he was eleven. He received his BS from Queens College and has worked as a developer for various e-commerce websites. He believes that education replaces fear and that education can both empower and inspire kids to reach new heights. He is a dog-lover, likes Mexican food and gets inspirations from movies and books.
Business Dev & Partnerships
Prior to Qlovi, Emanuel was a candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles and the Chief Strategy Officer for Spokeo. Emanuel was also a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and served as the Special Assistant to Chairman Paul Volcker in the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Designated Federal Officer of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board (PERAB). Prior to serving in the Obama Administration, Emanuel was a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs.
Emanuel is currently a Commissioner for the Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions, and Chairman of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and Salvadoran American Leadership and Educational Fund. He is originally from Los Angeles and is a graduate of Stanford University.
Ebony’s great passion for learning and teaching is what prompted her to start a career in education. With eight years of experience in her field, she now specializes as a certified English and special education teacher for eighth, ninth and tenth-grade students. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University, and her Master’s degree in Special Education: Learning Disabilities from American University. Trained in the Common Core Learning Standards, she serves as a turnkey trainer and resource to the teachers within her district.
Content & Acquisitions
Shira leads Qlovi’s book publishing partnerships. She is a graduate of Columbia College of Columbia University, where she earned a B.A. in creative writing and edited Quarto Literary Magazine. She began her career in the literary department at talent agency ICM Partners, where she worked on subsidiary rights & royalties, and assisted in the management of the beloved works of Dr. Seuss. She met the Qlovi team at the first ever Publishing Hackathon, held in May 2013. Shira is from New Jersey, has a New Yorker’s pace, and loves to travel, read, act, and write fiction.
